Conversational, Accessible, Fun November 5, 2012
I'm a Bible nerd, and I'm always interested in new translations, so I was super excited when the lovely folks at [...] offered me a free advance copy of The Voice New Testament to review. Sometimes I need a fresh interpretation to get fresh inspiration.
The Voice is very conversational, and the authors have obviously worked hard to eliminate much of the "Christianese" that turns people off. For instance, the word Christ is translated as "Liberating King" and John the Baptist is referred to as "John the Immerser." Also, dialogue is rendered screenplay-style, eliminating the extraneous quotation marks and "he said, she said" distractions.
Something I both liked and disliked about The Voice is how the translaters added words and phrases to illuminate the meaning of the original language. These additions are italicized so the reader knows what's was part of the original text and what's been added. Although I appreciate the clarity that these additions provide, I find the frequent italics a little distracting.
I would recommend The Voice to anyone who is looking for a Bible that's enjoyable and accessible. It may not be your best bet for in-depth exegesis, but it's perfect for personal devotions.

Trash June 3, 2012
This is a trashy watered down version. Avoid it. Only 1 star because you cannot rate it any less.

Completely informative. May 18, 2012
I primarily use the KJV for scripture reading at the beginning of service, but use The Voice for impact.

The Voice™ Bible translation is a faithful dynamic translation of the Scriptures done as a collage of compelling narratives, poetry, song, truth, and wisdom. The Voice calls the reader to step into the whole story of Scripture and experience the joy and wonder of God’s revelation. Created for and by a church in great transition, The Voice uniquely represents collaboration among scholars, pastors, writers, musicians, poets, and other artists, giving great attention to the beauty of the narrative. The heart of The Voice is retelling the story of the Bible in a form as fluid as modern literary works yet remaining painstakingly true to the original manuscripts. This translation promotes the public reading of longer sections of Scripture—followed by thoughtful engagement with the biblical narrative in its richness and fullness and dramatic flow.
