Great Book - Read with Purpose! April 8, 2013
What stood out to me the most was the line
“God loves you just the way you are, but he refuses to leave you there. He wants you to be just like Jesus.”
We hear very often in Church that Jesus is our example and we are supposed to be like Him.
But how? How could we ever be just like Jesus?
With a mix of scipture, common sense and great stories that serve to illustrate his points, Lucado invites the reader to look in the mirror and some tough questions.
I will say it could be easy to breeze through the book and not allow it to impact you. I pray that you would do the exact opposite. The questions Lucado asks can have “obvious”answers that we may want to be true about ourselves; but if you take the time after each question honestly – to truly look at your heart motivations and actions I believe God will show you ways that he wants to help you, personally, to be more like Jesus.
After I finished the book I realized there was a study guide at the end! I was tempted to write a review of the book itself and simply mention the study guide, but then I changed my mind and decided to work my way through the study before reviewing the book.
I am so glad I did. Max asks some probing questions in the course of the book, but the study guide is a truly well done application of the material from each chapter of the book. Part book study, part bible study it is an excellent resource if you truly desire to have a heart like His.
I more than just enjoyed Just Like Jesus, I truly feel I have grown because of reading and studying it.

God loves you just the way you are, but he refuses to leave you there. He wants you to be just like Jesus.
Can you think of a better offer?
Jesus felt no guilt; God wants you to feel no guilt. Jesus had no bad habits; God wants to do away with yours. Jesus had no fears; God wants the same for you. Jesus had no anxiety about death; you needn't either. God's desire, his plan, his ultimate goal is to make you into the image of Christ.
But how does this change occur? And why does the change seem so slow? If God wants me to be just like Jesus, why do I still seem just like me?
In Just Like Jesus, Max Lucado helps you answer these questions. He helps you understand God's wonderful ways of transformation. Would you like to know more? Then read on. And remember: God loves you just way you are, but he refuses to leave you there. He wants you to be just like Jesus.
