Thriller Home Run January 18, 2014
Erin Healy's latest creation is about a teacher, Serena Diaz, who is accused of sexual misconduct and, in an effort to get away and think, finds herself in further hot water by being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Not only is she shot at when she inadvertently comes across the exchange drop for a sex trafficking ring, but she is saved by a mysterious stranger and things just don't add up.
This super suspenseful action-packed tale woven around a sex trafficking ring is tastefully done and kept my heart pounding with its unexpected twists and turns. It was crazy how the main character kept doing things which made me frustrated with her stupidity, while at the same time, it made sense that as a victim of circumstances and false accusations, she would have to take on the task of her own private investigation since one would never quite know who the enemy could be.
The author has an interesting way of weaving paranormal out of this world activity or experiences into her stories. Perhaps I need more imagination or perhaps more experiences like hers, but they always amaze me and leave me wondering what I just read.
I did not want this book to end. I was surprised to find myself crying as well as considering how one might be able to equip more young girls to ensure that they will not fall victim to prey.
This author knows how to write a thriller. There is no doubt that this is a 10-star home run which is now, by far, my new favorite book. Way to go, Erin!

In the forest’s burned-out hollow, a house of dark secrets also glows with bright promise.
Serena’s career as a high school biology teacher comes to a halt when an angry student makes shocking accusations. Stunned and suspended, Serena retreats to the forest where she usually finds peace of mind. But on this day she encounters a killer and his prisoner—as well as a stranger who dies to save Serena’s life.
The stranger, Christopher, had dedicated his life to rescuing girls from forced prostitution—starting with his sister Amber. They formed a tiny nonprofit organization to protect girls and have been working furiously to bring down John Roman, the powerful criminal who first took Amber and has ruined scores of young women's lives since.
When Christopher’s grieving colleagues suspect Serena of being in league with Roman, her life spirals further out of control. How will she clear her name? Why did this stranger protect her with his life? And what is the meaning of the visions she sees every time she visits the gutted house where he died?
