Description

A feast of romance and laughter featuring a delightful and courageous heroine that you can relate to no matter what your size.

Convinced that her larger size relegates her to wallflower status, Freddie Heinz hides behind the wedding cakes she creates as a professional baker. But life is about to change for Miss Invisible.

First of all, Freddie's found a new friend who encourages her to come out of her shell. Then Hal, the cute veternarian, starts showing interest in the woman behind the delightful cakes. And when Freddie decides to break every rule in the "big girl's" book and find out who she really is, life gets even more exciting--and hilarious.

Cinderella, look out! Miss Invisible is becoming the belle of the ball--and having a ball in the process. Because when you finally find God's call for your life, any size is the right size--and love can see what the rest of the world passes by.

Reading Guides

Reading Group Guide

  1. Miss Invisible begins with the line, "One size does not fit all." In our looks-obsessed society, could you relate to that comment?
  2. It's been said that fat is the last acceptable prejudice. Would you agree? And why do you think that is?
  3. Have you ever felt invisible because of your size? And was it men or women who made you feel that way?
  4. Have you ever hidden from the world--made yourself invisible by how you dress and act--to prevent yourself from getting hurt or disappointed?
  5. In Freddie's fantasy world--and in her Betty Bigg blog--she's always saying or doing things that she doesn't have the courage to do in real life. Are you guilty of doing the same thing? Or do you have the courage to stand up for yourself to others--politely and diplomatically?
  6. Who was your favorite female character in the book and why?
  7. Freddie's friendship with the plus-size, outgoing, content-in-her-own-skin Deborah, helps her to blossom and grow into the woman God wants her to be. Do you have a Deborah in your life that has helped you do the same?
  8. Were Freddie's problems and insecurities due to her bigness? Or did they stem from the fact that she was abused (mainly from her perfectionist father) and was attracted to other abusers?
  9. Do you ever find yourself judging large people in restaurants when you see them eating dessert and think, 'Well, no wonder she's so big! She's stuffing her face with cheesecake!" Now that you've grown to know Freddie and Deborah, will you still react this way?
  10. Who was your favorite male character in the book? Hal, Simon, Samuel, or Shane, the intern?
  11. As women, we all have issues with our bodies. Did you like the fact that by the end of the book Freddie became comfortable enough in her own skin to not only wear a bathing suit in mixed company, but to also relax and have fun in a co-ed volleyball game in the pool? Would you have been able to do that?
  12. How did you feel about Freddie changing her name to Kate at the end of the book? Did you agree with her decision?
