Running for My Life is not a story about Africa or track and field athletics. It is about outrunning the devil and achieving the impossible faith, diligence, and the desire to give back. It is the American dream come true and a stark reminder that saving one can help to save thousands more.
Lopez Lomong chronicles his inspiring ascent from a barefoot lost boy of the Sudanese Civil War to a Nike sponsored athlete on the US Olympic Team. Though most of us fall somewhere between the catastrophic lows and dizzying highs of Lomong's incredible life, every reader will find in his story the human spark to pursue dreams that might seem unthinkable, even from circumstances that might appear hopeless.
"Lopez Lomong's story is one of true inspiration. His life is a story of courage, hard work, never giving up, and having hope where there is hopelessness all around. Lopez is a true role model." ―MICHAEL JOHNSON, Olympic Gold Medalist
"This true story of a Sudanese child refugee who became an Olympic star is powerful proof that God gives hope to the hopeless and shines a light in the darkest places. Don't be surprised if after reading this incredible tale, you find yourself mysteriously drawn to run alongside him." ―RICHARD STEARNS, president, World Vision US and author of THe Hole in Our Gospel

It is inspiring & stunning in its complex simplicity.
It is not so much a story about Africa and her conflict, as it is a story of resilience, kindness, redeemed humanity & faith.
Lopez Lomong chronicles his inspiring ascent from a barefoot lost boy of the Sudanese Civil War to a Nike sponsored athlete on the US Olympic Team.
His honesty & simple storytelling-style is perfect.
As I read of hardship which is unimaginable, I was reminded of the value of perspective – how what we believe & how we perceive life, influences how we respond and live.
Lomong speaks candidly of Africa & America. It is fascinating to experience with him the immense differences between these worlds & the immense similarities in who we are, regardless of our wealth or poverty.
He paints a disturbing picture of the world we live in, while at the same time using bright colors to paint a beautiful landscape of how different this world becomes when single individuals are affected by Divine grace, in turn affecting the world with no more than what they consider commonplace.
As I put this book down I contemplate the pursuit of dreams, the intimate & incomprehensible involvement of our Divine Creator in individual lives & the difference my life can make, in a world desperate for hope.
You should read this one. It will affect your being. (Posted on 10/16/13)

Spoken in his own words, Lopez's playful spirit shines through even the darkest hours of his tale. It is perfect for all audiences! It completely redefined the way I approach struggle and is much more a story of triumph than about track and field. It is a book centered around an amazing athlete - a two time Olympian - but ultimately this is a tale that has changed the way I live my life. I am compelled to action and will be a life-long supporter of Lomong and the great work his does on and off the track.
Bravo Lopez! Keep inspiring the world! GO USA!! (Posted on 1/26/13)
