Desperate is for those who love their children to the depths of their souls but who have also curled up under their covers, fighting back tears, and begging God for help. It’s for those who have ever wondered what happened to all their ideals for what having children would be like. For those who have ever felt like all the “experts” have clearly never had a child like theirs. For those who have prayed for a mentor. For those who ever felt lost and alone in motherhood.

In Desperate you will find the story of one young mother’s honest account of the desperate feelings experienced in motherhood and one experienced mentor’s realistic and gentle exhortations that were forged in the trenches of raising her own four children.

Review by Heather
Desperate shines light into the dark places of motherhood, showering empathy, encouragement and scriptural truths on moms with children of all ages.

Today's moms can feel pressured to be some combination of June Cleaver and Supermom. If we don't live up to that unachievable standard, we can feel like failures. Add to this "I-have-to-do-it-all" mentality a shrinking real-world community and now we are pressured to be the "I-have-to-do-it-all-by-myself" mom. The results? Mommy burn-out.

Sarah Mae is genuine and willing to open up and discuss those feelings us "supermoms" try to hide because we are ashamed to admit we have felt them ourselves. Her words give hope to the mom in the midst of the dark places because she understands firsthand those days of desperation and can speak as one who has made it out the other side.

Sally Clarkson's sage advice is beautifully woven into each chapter. As a mom with grown children, she is a wonderful example of the Titus 2 woman and encourages younger moms to prepare to fill that role someday also.

When I first came across Desperate, I didn't know if I wanted to read it. Was I really "desperate?" Maybe sometimes, but not that day. So I let it go. I kept coming across the book again and again though, and I remembered my own days of desperation. But was I ready to reveal that I had experienced those feelings of desperation myself? Yes, I could not let my pride prevent me from sharing with other moms a resource that could be of indescribable value.

I requested a copy and began to read and highlight some of my favorite lines. I think I ended up highlighting half of the book. :) You will be blessed over and over again as you read.

No matter what age your children are, Desperate is a book you need to have in your library for the tough days when you need spiritual encouragement. I feel so privileged to have been able to read and share this review with you.
