Despite high-minded ideals, temptation always seems to loom around the corner, threatening to derail us into a desperate world of secret behavior and covered-up indiscretions. From families to marriages to businesses, on a scale as global as the credit default swap meltdown or as personal as our last session on the Internet, we are suckers for bad ideas.

Why do we so often make poor decisions that can lead to life-shattering results? Why do we promise ourselves to do better only to slide back into our old habits?

Why can’t we help ourselves?

The time has come for each of us to become accountable. To experience the freedom, peace of mind, and overwhelming self-confidence that come from living a life free of secrets and lies.

In every area of our lives, it’s time to go beyond self-help . . . it’s time to get accountable.

It’s time to live Open..

Today we live in a fast pace world where we are connected more than ever before. We have numerous social outlets in which to present our lives to others, usually spinning it as perfection. Craig’s book is about being open, and the best description comes right off the cover, it’s about what happens when you get real, get honest, and get accountable.

The ideas presented by Craig aren’t new, yet the way he presents them makes you want what he has. Deep down we all want to be accountable, we all want to be open and accepted and loved unconditionally. “Open” covers why we need accountability, what we need as a person (such as honesty, courage, and help), and how to make all this happen. Craig doesn’t attempt to sell an open life as easy, and he gives great resources to help you as you embark on a life of being open. That’s what it is though, a journey, a life of it, it isn’t just a simple decision. It’s putting away your insecurities and your fears every day.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Open, and I feel it challenged me in my own life right now. I selected this book intentionally because I’m currently dealing with being more open about things in my life. I was surprised to find that this book didn’t deal with openness and Christianity. Craig mentioned the resources available through his church, but overall this book covered being open with everyone, believers and unbelievers. It focused on doing life together, rather than some spiritual checklist.

I would recommend this book to anyone currently struggling in sharing your life with others, but honestly, everyone can pull something useful from reading this book.
