Her fingertips brushed against something else in the box of doilies. She lifted a bundle of letters, neatly tied with a thin red ribbon . . .

Ivy Yoder hasn’t heard from John King in over a year. She knows it’s time to let go of the idea that they will one day marry, but she’s humiliated to be one of the oldest single women in her Amish community of Birch Creek. When quirky Cevilla Schlabach asks her to help clean out an attic, Ivy is grateful for the distraction.

Noah Schlabach isn’t from Birch Creek, or even Ohio. His job as an auctioneer takes him around the country and away from a typical Amish life, but he still remains devoted to his family. So when his aging aunt asks him to help clean out her attic, he agrees. Plus, who knows what curious items he might find up there?

As Noah and Ivy work side by side, they come across a different kind of treasure: a packet of letters written during the Korean War. Soon they are swept up in the story of two young people falling in love—even as they remain determined not to fall in love themselves.

Words from the Heart is a moving story of lost love letters, fragile fears, and the beauty of taking another step forward.

While in Michigan helping her cousin, Ivy Yoder met John King and he broke her heart. With John out of her life, Ivy needs something to distract her from dwelling too much about being single. When Cervilla Schlabach asks her to help clean her attic, Ivy is only too happy to accept.

Noah Schlabach, Cervella’s nephew from Iowa, has also been asked by his aunt to come to Birch Creek, Ohio to help his aunt go through her step mother’s things in her attic. Since he loves his aunt he can’t say no, but being an auctioneer, he also hopes there are some interesting things to be found in all those boxes.

As Ivy and Noah work together to make heads or tails out of the stuff in the boxes, they are disappointed to find box after box of doilies, until they find a box different from the rest. It is filled with even more doilies and… letters from CJ written during the Korean War. As they read the letters they find themselves reading about a couple falling in love, and wonder if Bunny is Cervella’s step mother or could it be someone else?

Although Noah and Ivy are determined to not fall under the spell of Aunt Cervella’s attempt at match-making, they find themselves having feelings for each other. Noah knows nothing can come of it because he will not subject Ivy to a life-time of dealing with his secret illness and Ivy is just as determined to prove to him, she is worth loving.

This book will capture your heart from the first page. You will find yourself wanting to comfort Ivy from the hurt of a broken heart and heal Noah’s illness. As Noah and Ivy work together to clean the attic and unravel the mystery of the letters, they will find comfort in knowing God is in control. Their journey will keep you turning the pages.
